Disconnecting

This weekend was great. Thanks to the Easter bank holidays in the UK, I had the pleasure of spending four days in the countryside with family. It was incredibly enjoyable. With nothing demanding our presence, we were free to potter around and do whatever we wanted to do. Together, we constructed and painted a fence to protect the new vegetable patch on the upper lawn - probably the first time I've made something in years. Doing so made me realise how much I enjoy DIY. I also spent time walking around the village with my girlfriend, and visited the rather minute village bookshop. While browsing, I came across "Edible Economics" by Ha-Joon Chang. Remembering that Gary Stevenson spoke highly of him, I bought it. I'm yet to read it - I shall share my thoughts here when I do so. I like the idea of actually supporting independent businesses. I suspect it's common for people to vocally support them, but not follow through financially. Unfortunately, the former doesn't pay the bills, which is why so many end up closing. Hopefully my book helped.
